More love for Kuwait

On March 2nd, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that senior Chinese officials are keen on consolidating and strengthening the ties between China and Kuwait. Chinese officials want to deepen and strengthen political and economic ties which have been forming since diplomatic relations began between the two states in 1971. China is specifically interested in relations with Kuwait since the two share many of the same stances on issues in the United Nations, and China applauds Kuwait for trying to solve different conflicts in the Middle East. If Kuwait were to gain China as a strong ally, it would be very beneficial for its strength within the UN. I found this piece of news very interesting, since Kuwait is also trying to deepen its diplomatic relations with Mexico. If Kuwait were to gain a strong ally in China, in theory China could be the voice of Kuwait in the Security Council, which would only strengthen Kuwait's diplomatic power.
The first flight from Iraq to Kuwait since 1990 occurred on February 27th. Before the 27th there had only been private flights between the countries, this just shows how diplomatic relations between the two countries have been strengthening.

  1. In the post I just wrote, it talked about economic relations with Asia as well. Dr. Saidi recommends that Arab states shift their economic, financial and investment policies to focus on the East. The Arab League should situate itself in the new global supply chain to have ideal leverage with a future with the East.

The growth (and projected growth) of the Chinese economy is stable and positive. Kuwait is making the right moves to strengthen ties with China.

  3. I agree that once Kuwait strengthens its relationship with Asian countries, especially China, it will gain a stronger voice. It has potential to be a leading power in the Middle East. I think that it should do whatever it can to expand its ties with strong nations so that it will prosper. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the future.

  4. This is a great step for Kuwait and its place in the Middle East. This would be a very beneficial partnership for both countries... Dynamic duo?

  5. This could definitely change the balance of power a bit if China and Kuwait become close allies like it seems is beginning to develop. It could also, like you said, really help Kuwait and the diplomatic relations they are seeking with Mexico. The information about the first flight is really interesting too!

  6. While I do believe that the partnership will be beneficial to Kuwait's bargaining power in international relations, I also find it somewhat surprising that nobody has mentioned the word "oil" here as of yet. Kuwait is a stable, responsible nation and voice of reason in the Middle East, yes. But as the world powers continually and exponentially expend the world's oil reserves, becoming friends with the country containing the second largest oil field in the world sure doesn't sound like a bad idea.
