Iranian PM on Bahrain Politics

This was a pretty interesting article. I know PressTV is kind of a 'mmm' source when it comes to news because well, its owned by IRIB but, why not read some of it every now and then. Really this was interesting because of the source and not really what it was talking about.

This basically corresponds with what I've been talking about regarding Bahrain over the past few weeks, the protests and talks going on. In this article, the Iranian MP, Ali-Akbar Naseri stated that "Whenever the (ruling), Al Khalifa (family) sees the pillars of its regime (becoming) more unstable, it uses..empty promises to keep revolutionaries away from their demands."

Iran (as the Bahrain government has stated) appears to support the protests and many believe, in secret they are providing support other than just rhetoric. The article states that the protests will continue until "their demand for the establishment of a democratically elected government is met." This article takes an immediate tone of support to the protestors and disdain for the government. Interesting...

and on another note, Iran gave an award to Michelle Obama "for revealing the influence that the White House sways over the Hollywood film industry." ---> I'll post the rest in the RIO fb page.

  1. Concerning the award to Michelle Obama, this article helped me understand the point a little bit better.

I have two views on the topic. On one hand, it was just a movie. Most movies that are "based on a true story" are very loosely based on these events. Taking these things too seriously leads to problems, especially when claims are made that this represents the beliefs of a large percentage of people of whom have never been asked about the topic (not that this is what was said, but you get the idea).
On the other hand, the Oscars is a very important and widely publicized event. Being so publicized, anything said or done will reflect on the American people. Michelle Obama presented the award, so regardless of what she believes, she had a part in the process.
But the best people in the industry vote on the movies, and these votes and nominations are overseen by PricewaterhouseCoopers (the same company that conducted an audit of the Jordanian expenses in relation to Libyan citizens affected by the civil war). That company is good enough for the other Arab Nations and their issues, so why can't the Iranians who presented the award just realize that regardless of the truth of the content, the movie won the award because it was well made?
I realize that movies can be political, but this was the Oscars, and in the end, it was simply a movie.

  2. After reading this article what sticks out to me is that-"
Security forces have since killed scores of people and arrested hundreds, including doctors and nurses accused of treating injured protesters." They are cracking down HARD and unnecessarily so. If its true that the Bahrainis will continue holding street protests until their demand for the establishment of a democratically-elected government is met, then how long will the killings and arrests continue?
